2024 Tryout Details

TRYOUT DATE: Sunday, March 3, 2023

AGES:

We will be holding tryouts for 10u and 12u ONLY.

Note that we will NOT be holding tryouts for 8u or HS age groups.

LOCATION:

Address: Hamline University’s Walker Fieldhouse, 1550 W. Taylor Ave, St. Paul, MN

TIMES: 12U Tryouts will be held first, followed by 10U:

TRYOUT FEE:

Tryouts will be $30.00 per player to cover Hamline’s fees for hosting/running the tryouts.
Please MAKE SURE to bring this payment to the tryouts.
Cash or check made out to Hamline University Softball.
Please come to the check-in table to submit your payment and get a number assigned to your player.

WHAT PLAYERS CAN EXPECT:

Players will be rated objectively on a number of fundamental areas: playing catch, fielding (infield and outfield), throwing, hitting, baserunning, for instance
The tryout process will be explained in detail to players before tryouts begin
Skill ratings will be on a scale of 1-10
Pitcher/Catcher ratings will be on a scale of 1-5 and 1-4 in certain skills
Evaluators will be neutral parties to ensure a fair tryout
Team placement will be announced via email the week following tryouts

EVALUATORS:

Tryouts will be run by Hamline head softball coach Jim Rubbelke and members of his staff & team.
Background checks have been done for all coaches and student athletes participating as evaluators

PARENT PRESENCE:

Please note that parents are NOT allowed to observe tryouts. Please wait in your car or come get your player after the tryouts are complete.

CAN’T MAKE IT TO TRYOUTS ON MARCH 3?

Any player who is unable to try out will be placed on a team at the Board’s discretion.
